Federation Cynologique Internationale label for keeshond is 97 and was added to the registry 1998-03-05. American Kennel Club groups the breed as «Non-Sporting Dogs». United Kennel Club approves the breed as «Northern Breed» in their registry. Canadian Kennel Club groups the breed as «Non-Sporting dogs».

State of health in the Keeshond: Regrettably, any Keeshond may experience fatal health difficulties. Keeshond is a dog breed which is sometimes handicapped by hip dysplasia. Hip dysplasia syndrome is a polygenic trait. The Keeshond's are affected by skin difficulties. Heart disease is a frequent syndrome in this dog breed.

The Keeshond's physical characteristics: Males get as tall as 17 to 19 inches tall. Female dogs reach a hight of 15 to 17 inches tall. Males get as heavy as 55 to 66 pounds. Female dogs grow up to 55 to 66 pounds. The fur is longhaired.
