First bred in: this race was originally bred in Japan. However, they are not a common sigth in Tokyo.
Kishu classification: Kishu is recognized in the World Canine Organisation register. The breed is approved in the section «Asian Spitz and related breeds» (5.5) in the classification «Spitz and Primitive types». World Canine Organisation identification for kishu is 318 and was added to the register 1994-12-20. United Kennel Club acknowledges the breed as «Northern Breed» in their register.
