Leonberger does shed a lot. Beware the shedding problems caused by this breed if there are allergic members of your family. The dogs requires medium grooming.

Leonberger is best for people with experience, as it can prove to be time-consuming to guide. The dog is rather acute and surprisingly susceptible to obedience training. These creatures are very energetic and even long and demanding trips will not be a problem. The breed have a medium need for training.

Can be a bit dog aggressive. They are children friendly and good with kids. The dogs show little or none predatory dispositions. They do not posess instincts to nibble, but if such behaviour occurs the habit should be treated at an early age.

This breed may bark, but usually not excessively. Although the Leonberger can live in surprisingly hot climates, it's not the ideal contidions for this dog breed. This dog breed was born to live in freezing temperatures, and can live outside all year round. This breed is known to be surprisingly playful. They love to be with the family, and rarely (if ever) try to escape. They are not surprisingly found of being home alone.

First bred in: Leonberger's was originally from Germany. They are a common sigth in Berlin.

Leonberger class: Leonberger is approved in the World Canine Organisation archives. The breed is acknowledged in the section «Molossoid breeds» (2.2) in the class «Pinscher and Schnauzer, Molossoid Breeds». World Canine Organisation symbol for leonberger is 145 and was added to the archives 1996-01-04. American Kennel Club classifies the breed as «Miscellaneous Class». United Kennel Club involves the breed as «Guardian Dogs» in their archives. Canadian Kennel Club classifies the breed as «Working dogs».

Health issues in the Leonberger: Unfortunately, some of the dogs may experience tough health problems. Leonberger is a dog breed which is experiencing hip dysplasia. Hip dysplasia illness is the single most common cause of arthritis of the hips. Eyelid problems is Unfortunately a problem for this dog breed. Other health problems have also been recorded (including bone disease).

Other facts about the dog: The breed is rather fashionable and usually no problem to find for sale. The leonberger were originally bred for drafting, mountaineer, companion, farm dog, and watchdog.
